Details

Media: Photography, model landscaping trees, diorama

After purchasing a Canon T1i I was flipping through one of the instruction booklets and saw a diorama of a toy car in front of a city photo. The idea was to show what could be done with a macro lens and I was hooked.

I bought some model train landscaping supplies, found some sticks and stones, and started my first project. This is actually for a Phoenix Design Week project which required it to be flat and open, so I don’t consider it a real diorama, but it’s a step in the right direction.

Photographing it proved to be more challenging than I expected. Adding a backdrop is a pretty important step that I haven’t done yet. And the next one will be in a shoebox rather than on an open foam board.

I made this tree trunk with leaves and flowers from Play Doh that Susan Baier’s daughter gave me after the Gangplank white elephant gift exchange. I’ve been working on photography more as well and am really into macro photography.

I’m amazed that you can even see the fingerprints in some of the flowers!
